Control engineering

Control engineering or control systems engineering is the engineering discipline that applies control theory to design systems with desired behaviors. The practice uses sensors to measure the output performance of the device being controlled and those measurements can be used to give feedback to the input actuators that can make corrections toward desired performance. When a device is designed to perform without the need of human inputs for correction it is calledautomatic control (such as cruise control for regulating the speed of a car). Multi-disciplinary in nature, control systems engineering activities focus on implementation of control systems mainly derived by mathematical modeling of systems of a diverse range.

Department of Telecommunication Engineering

Welcome to the Department of Telecommunication Engineering, the most recent addition to the already existing departments under the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The high rate of technological advancement in the telecom sector calls for the establishent of this department. Telecommunication Engineering finds placement in every aspect of Electrical Engineering and Engineering practice as a whole. Stronger emphasis is placed on Wireless Communictaion Systems, Mobile and Satellite Communication Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Analog and Digital Communication Systems, Microwave Engineering and Electromagnetic Compatibility.
The Department focuses on development, design and maintenance of voice and data communications systems – optical fibre, satellite, wired, unwired, and the encoding, encryption and compression of data. The Blackberry is old; 3G is dead, Torrent downloads take too long – the world is moving to 4G, wireless sensors networks, body area networks, and ‘smart’ meters.
There are worldwide career opportunities in our global village. Anything requiring the transmission of information across channels via wired or unwired channels utilises telecommunications engineering. Being the only Public University in Ghana to offer this programme, the Department of Telecommunication Engineering shapes
Information and Communication Technology at KNUST, Ghana and West Africa at large

Welcome to Electrical/Electronic Engineering

Electrical and Telecommunications engineering are arguably the largest and most diverse field of
engineering, dealing in research and design, application, and manufacture of systems and devices that use electric power and signals. The KNUST Electrical and Electronics department has equipped itself with up-to- date know-how and equipment in the teaching of such a prestigious course for both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The department has not lost focus of the impact of telecommunication engineering, hence, has provisions in place and offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in this sector too. Since all indications point out to the fact that the explosive rate of growth in this field will continue unabated, our department has set its eyes on the future and not losing track with recent technology and research

in this field.
